The Upstate’s Retail Market Experienced Little Change

The Upstate’s retail market did not experience much change in market conditions in the first quarter of 2017. The vacancy rate held at 4.9% from last quarter to the current quarter. Net absorption was down 5,697 square feet, and vacant sublease space increased by 6,506 square feet. Rental rates increased from fourth quarter 2016 levels, ending at $10.51 per square foot per year. Four retail buildings with 54,160 square feet of retail space were supplied to the market in this quarter, with 184,483 still under construction.
